Abstract

The four vanes (P) are carried on a central shaft (A) which has four radial arms. Each vane is geared to the central shaft by means of an increasing gear so that for every rotation of the central shaft (A) the vanes only make half a turn in the opposite direction of rotation to that of the shaft (A). In this way the vanes take up the positions shown which means there is no resistance to flow while the vanes are moving up stream (position 6). The vanes may operate with any fluid with any direction of flow and with any change of direction.
