Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a vertical windmill which can operate at a very low speed but high torque, by equipping the windmill with a plurality of vertical movable vanes which have a symmetric cross section and whose wind reception angle periodically varies in every rotation, and equipping the windmill with a mechanism for driving the vanes.
CONSTITUTION: When a rotary body 2 rotates in a direction 7, the wind reception angle of each vane 3 to a wind 6 varies as shown by a diagram in Fig. The axis 1 of abscissa of the diagram represents the rotation angle of a rotary shaft 1 on the basis of the position of the shaft 1 corresponding to that 8 of one vane. The axis 2 of coordinates of the diagram represents the reception angle of each vane 3, which is regarded as positive when the vane is oriented left with regard to the wind 6 as shown at 4. The reception angle of the vane 3 take positive and negative values in each rotation of the rotary shaft 1. When a force is applied to the vane 3 by the wind, a windmill is rotated.
