Abstract

1400718 Turbines LUCAS INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 Dec 1972 [11 Dec 1971] 57663/71 Heading F1T A centripetal gas turbine has an array of pivotal nozzle vanes, movement of alternate vanes 14a through a given angle being accompanied by movement of the other vanes 14b through a greater angle in the opposite direction. As shown vanes 14a are coupled to pinions 15 driven by a ring gear (17) Fig. 1 (not shown), the pinions 15 driving smaller pinions 16 coupled to vanes 14b. The sizes of the pinions are such that s 40 degrees rotation of vanes 14a is accompanied by a 140 degrees rotation of vanes 14a in the opposite direction. Thus the vanes can be moved from the Fig. 2 position to a shut-off position, Fig. 3, and then into a reverse position Fig. 4 (not shown). In modifications Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) the pinions are replaced by linkwork.
