[Class 133] A shopping bag comprises two pockets of flexible sheet material adapted to lie flat, the closed ends of the pockets being joined together by a flexible member 6 having an opening 8 through which handles 7 at the open end 5 of the pockets can be passed when the pockets are folded inwards on themselves. As shown, the bag is formed by folding inwardly two opposite sides of a square sheet of stout woven fabric and sewing together its overlapping edges to form a flat tube, Fig. 2, sewing the tube along lines 3 to form the pockets and cutting a central transverse slot 8. By folding the ends along lines 9, passing the handles 7 through the slot 8 and finally folding along the central transverse line 4, a compact bag, Fig. 3, is formed. For carrying bulky articles, the handles are simply brought together without passing them through the slot 8. Small pockets may be provided within the larger pockets. Two handles may be provided at each end. Strengthening strips of leather may be provided at the ends of the pockets, around the slot 8 and over the lines 9.
