Abstract

568,821. Discharge apparatus. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Aug. 30, 1943, No. 14104. Convention date, Aug. 29, 1942. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] An arrangement for comparing two voltages comprises a cathode 2 and a fluorescent anode 1 with two deflecting electrodes 3 and 4, to each of which one of the two voltages is applied. The resulting pattern produced on the fluorescent anode indicates the relative strengths of these voltages. The voltages may be applied to the electrodes through rectifying diodes 20 and 21 and amplifiers 25 and 26. The electrodes 3 and 4 may be side by side, in which case a shadow is produced on the anode when voltages are applied to the electrodes and a bright line in the shadow area indicates by its position the difference between the voltages of the electrodes. If these are placed end to end, the application of voltages produces a shadow which is stepped at the edges unless the voltages are equal. In either case the state of the shadow will indicate when both electrodes have no voltage. Specification 545,577 is referred to.
