Abstract
567,448. Drills. THOMAS, P. G. Aug. 9, 1943, No. 12851. [Class 83 (iii)] A centre drill is arranged not only to provide clearance for the point of the centre but also to form a recess at the outer end of the centring to form a protection therefor. The drill 4 is formed at one or both ends with a small diameter drill 3 merging into a section 2 coned according to the angle of centre required and radiused at 4 to lead into a further conical section 2A. By feeding the drill into the work as far as the line XX, a centre 2B, Fig. 2, is produced, radiused at 4A into a protective recess 2D. The walls of this recess may be cylindrical or otherwise shaped. By feeding the drill only as far as the radius 4, a centre with the outer end radiused is produced. The tool may be shaped to form other shapes, such as a centre continued by a conical recess of a larger angle.
