567,313. Forging - dies. BROCKHOUSE & CO., Ltd., J., and HODSON, G. Nov. 1, 1943, No. 17992. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Making rings.-In the manufacture of the outer race ring for a tapered roller bearing, the lower forging-die 5 is provided with a recess 17 to receive the metal trapped below the flat end 16 of the spigot 14 on the upper die. A smaller connection remains between this metal and the main body 10 of the forging and the metal can be punched out without leaving any shoulder at the end of the tapered surface. The surface 16 is substantially in the same plane as the surface 8 and the machining allowance 21 permits the whole of the cylindrical surface 20, formed by punching, to be removed.
