617,991. Bearings. ROULEMENTS A BILLES MINIATURES SOC. ANON. July 26, 1946, No. 22275. Convention date, July 11, 1945. [Class 12 (i)] A ball bearing has the play limited after assembly by deforming a neck or the like by which the race proper is carried on its base member (race body), the dimensions of the inner and outer surfaces of the bearing therefore not being directly affected. Fig. 1 shows a ball bearing, the outer race body 2 of which has a neck 4 carrying the race surface proper. To limit the play neck 4 is clenched between the sharp edges 6, 6<SP>1</SP> of a tool 5, 5<SP>1</SP> thereby slightly and indirectly diminishing the diameter of the race proper. The inner race may instead be formed and treated in a similar manner. Fig. 3 shows a bearing assembly having two sets of balls 3, 3<SP>1</SP> with the inner races 4, 4<SP>1</SP> formed in the shaft which between the races has a neck 5 compressible between two tools 6, 7, whereby the distance between the bearing surfaces of the balls is decreased. A flange 8 serves to align the tool before operation.
