Abstract

523,593. Ball bearings. AETNA BALL BEARING MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 5, 1938, No. 32110. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1937. [Class 12 (i)] A grease filled unsealed thrust bearing comprises a fixed race ring 10, a free race ring 14, balls 18 between the rings and a shell 25 carried by the free ring 14 and extending over the fixed ring 10 and radially inwardly along the back of the fixed ring at only working clearance distance therefrom. The greatest diameter of the fixed race ring is much less than the greatest internal diameter of the shell whereby grease leakage at the clearance space 29 is avoided. The perimeter of the fixed race 10 may be conical, as shown, or cylindrical and the shell 25 may have an inclined portion 37. The bearing is applicable to clutch throw-out bearings.
