Abstract

478,825. Ball and roller thrust bearings. GROVES, W. W. (Aetna Ball Bearing Manufacturing Co.) Aug. 21, 1936, No. 23047. [Class 12 (i)] A thrust bearing comprises a race ring 10, a race ring 14 free in relation to the ring 10 and mounted at the side thereof, a set of rolling members 18 between the race rings, a spacing cage 20 therefor terminating radially short of a circle circumscribing the rolling members and having peripherally opening pockets 19 therefor, and a shell 25 enclosing the bearing. The cage 20 is made of a porous metallic composition formed by sintering a compressed mixture of powdered metals, and it is journalled on the shaft and has a running fit with both race rings.
