Abstract

952,428. Making needle bearings; forging. RIV OFFICINE DI VILLAR PEROSA S.p.A. Oct. 31, 1962 [Nov. 7, 1961], No. 41222/62. Headings B3A and B3H. [Also in Division F2] In a metal cage 20 for a needle bearing wherein the needle rollers 25 are guided parallel to each other by end sections 33 of the cage bars 23 and are held radially captive by intermediate sections 27 and by ridges 30 with overhanging edges 51, the latter are upset by pressing the ridges in the axial direction of the cage. This has a cylindrical base and a stepped exterior turned on a lathe by a profile cutter 26, Fig. 1 (not shown). The windows 34 are then punched out and the cage is mounted on a mandrel 50, Fig. 11, where pressure is applied axially to the ridges 30 by radially acting tool 40 having grooves 42, 43. The latter preferably have concavely curved sides 47, 48, Fig. 5 (not shown). In another embodiment, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), a pair of oppositely acting tools apply axial pressure to each ridge.
