Abstract
925,494. Swaging. FENN MANUFACTURING CO. July 21, 1961 [April 26, 1961], No. 26471/61. Class 83 (4). A metal workpiece is swaged by two pairs of opposed dies operating in alternate sequence in radial slats of a cylindrical support 16 having a central feed opening and an outer cover ring 30. The dies 36 are non-rotary and have workengaging faces 38 which may be flat, of concave or convex shape, or having ridges or depressions ; different work-engaging contours may be provided on adjacent or opposite dies or both. Shims 42 separate the dies 36 from hammers 40 whose outer surfaces 78 are engaged by rollers 52 of a rotating cage 50. The dies and hammers are guided radially by bearing shoes 26 in the stationary support 16 and the stroke position of the dies is varied by altering the thickness of the shims 42. Lubricant is fed to the dies through a passage 80, Fig. 1 (not shown), and is retained by seals 88, Fig. 1 (not shown).
