Abstract
566,763. Smallarms. COOK, L. J. March 10, 1943, No. 3875. [Class 119] The sear 1 of a rifle or other smallarm is guided in a straight-line path perpendicular to the path of the striker 5, and is urged into bent by a spring 7, the strength of which is adjustable by nuts 8, 9 and lock-nuts 12, 13. Lateral pins 15 on the sear are engaged by the forked end of a lever 16 which is pivoted at 17 in the action-frame. A cranked trigger 18 is pivoted at 19 between the sides of the lever 16 and bears with its nose 20 against the underside of the receiver 3, so that, when the trigger is pulled, the forked end of the lever will be depressed and the sear moved out of bent to release the striker. In a modification, the stem of the sear is extended downwardly into the pistol-grip 23, the spring 7 and tensioning nuts being located within the grip.
