Abstract

511,900. Rifles. PIKE, R. Oct. 7, 1938, No. 29120. [Class 119] A firing mechanism, described particularly with reference to a bolt-action rifle, has means for adjusting the trigger pull, the trigger 40 being pivoted at 42 and having a worm-screw 46 receiving a loop of a spring 48, so that by adjustment of the screw the tension of the spring may be varied. The screw has a groove 50, with notches 51 with which a spring-pressed pin 52 engages thereby giving a clicking indication' when the screw 46 is adjusted. The trigger has a hook 34 which passes through a member 30 and engages on the upper side thereof, the overlap of the hook being adjusted by a triggerpositioning screw 56. The member 30 has a step 29 which normally supports a screw extension 21 pivoted in the screw 11 at 23 and urged into engagement with the step 29 by a spring 24. The screw 11 is pivoted at 13 and influenced by a spring 15 so that an inclined surface 17 may coact with a corresponding surface on the cocking member 19. When the trigger is pulled to release the member 30, the thrust of the cocking member depresses the sear 11 and rocks the member 30 by means of the sear extension 21, the end of the extension slipping from the step 29 in this movement, whereupon the springs reset the trigger gear.
