Abstract

566,152. Roofs. HAMILTON, D. ST. A. May 15, 1943, No. 7753. [Class 20 (iv)] A roof structure is composed of ladder-like units consisting of parallel members 1 with transverse tubular welded battens 2. Where the structure approaches a valley or hip, the end of the unit is angularly curtailed. The eaves of the roof may be formed of similar, but shorter, units arranged at a shallower angle. The side members 1 are bolted together directly, except at valley or hip, where intermediate plates 4, 5 are provided. Units on opposite sides of the roof are bolted together by gusset plates 7. The units are supported at their lower ends on the top of the wall by a crossmember which is embedded in a recess in the wall. Fig. 10 shows the junction of six units. On the valley side, the adjacent members 1 of the units D are bolted to the plate 4. On the hip side, adjacent members 1 of the units B are bolted to the plate 5, and the members 1 of units B and D are bolted to angle plates 15. The tiles 19, Fig. 13, are secured to the battens 2 by hooks 20 passing through the tiles and hooking under the battens. The construction may be applied to a wall.
