A hipped roof section, Fig. 2A, is formed of equal sized right-angled triangular plates, the sides of the section each being formed by two or multiples of two plates so as to have isosceles triangular or isosceles trapezoidal shape. Roofs may be composed of single hipped sections, or pairs of hipped sections having struts 3 between the apices of the sections forming the pair, between adjacent supporting columns. Each triangular plate may comprise two triangular frames 2' Fig. 11 of steel or other material spaced apart by battens 1'. The frames may be closed by cement rendered wire mesh 5' on both sides, or on the inner side with metal or asbestos cement sheets on the outer side. A filling 4' of lightweight thermal insulation is provided.
