Abstract

566,088. Respirators. SADD, J. A., and LETTS, H. J. R. March 30, 1943, No. 5122. [Class 81 (ii)] A respirator comprises a diaphragm for speech and an expiratory valve with separate concentric conduits for the sound waves and for the expired air respectively. The aperiodic or tuned diaphragm c, e.g. of fine mesh fabric or metal, is arranged within a light metal apertured casing d, e to which is secured a tubular extension f which screws into a member g apertured at g<3> for the sound waves to issue and at g<2> for expired air to issue. The expired air passes around the outside of the casing d, e and lifts a valve h, seated at h<1>, between a lugged spacing member i and the portion g<1> of the member g. In the modification of Fig. 4, the units are held in place in the respirator a of service type, by an apertured clamping plate l and bolt which tightens on the plate d of the diaphragm unit. The inlet filter may be arranged laterally upon the facepiece of the mask. The mask is provided with the usual head harness. Specification 555,668 is referred to.
