Abstract

940,030. Respiratory masks. S. F. ROBERTS (1960) Ltd. Sept. 6, 1962 [Sept. 25, 1961], No. 34268/61. Heading AST. A respiratory face mask has an exhalation valve comprising a floating rigid ring 12 across which a speech diaphragm 13 is stretched arid an annular seating 11 for the ring. The face mask has a front opening 5 which receives a die casting 6 which includes a union 7 for an inhalation pipe 8 and has an opening 9 fitted with the exhalation valve. The exhalation valve closure which is held loosely by perforated plates 15, 16 fixed to the casting, comprises a rigid ring 12 of L-shaped cross-section across which extends the speech diaphragm 13 of doped silk. Projections from the ring locate the closure in an annular recess 14 in the casting, a rubber washer 11 in the recess forming a valve seat. A piercable boss 19 serves for the connection of a telephone or microphone.
