565,600. Gauges. JACKSON, F. Feb. 18, 1943, No. 2685. [Class 106 (ii)] A gauge or test indicator has a needle carried by a member rotatably supported on a spring strip, 'or a spring-controlled strip, anchored at the other end in the casing, and a fixed or resilient fulcrum. also anchored in the casing and a contact member coacting with the spring strip or spring-controlled strip to rock the member carrying the needle. As shown in Fig. 1, the needle of pointer 9 is mounted on a member 10 having longitudinal grooves on opposite sides in which are located the free ends 4a, 6a of spring strips 4, 6. The strip 4 is secured to a bracket 3 and forms a flexible fulcrum for the pointer while the strip 6 is secured to a block 5 and is formed with flanges 6b so that it is rigid along the greater part of its length. A tubular socket 7 forms a housing for the contact or gauge pin 8 which at its inner end bears against the spring strip 6. To permit calibration of the gauge the socket 7 may be slidably mounted in the casing of the gauge. In a form for measuring the bore of cylinders, the gauge casing has an oblong extension, Fig. 6, supporting the contact pin 8 and a fixed or extensible post 17. In place of a flexible fulcrum a short metal strip may be employed or the member 10 may be pivotally connected to one' or other or to both of the strips.
