Abstract

569,912. Linear-dimension gauges; indicating-instruments. CHARLES, A., and SMITH METERS, Ltd. Dec. 18, 1943, No. 18007. [Classes 106 (ii) and 106 (iv)] The pointer pivot of a dial indicator or other indicating instrument is made adjustable, with reference to the instrument frame, in the direction of the length of the pointer, so that the distance between the pointer pivot and the position of engagement of the pointer with its operating lever may be varied. The invention is shown applied to the dial gauge described in Specification 569,911. The pointer 23 pivoted at 40 is moved by an operating lever (not shown) engaging a pin 38 on a crank arm also pivoted at 40, the crank arm being adjustably connected to the pointer by the screw shown. The pointer pivot 40 is carried in arms 68, 69 rigidly connected by pins 75 and carried on the gauge framework by a pivot stud 67 and a stud 66 engaging slots 74 in the arms. One arm 69 is extended to form a portion 76 having a slot 77 engaged by an eccentric 78, the arms 68, 69, and thus the position of the pointer pivot 40, being adjusted by adjusting the eccentric. In a modification, the pointer pivot is carried by two arms, each having two slots whereby the arms can be adjusted and then fixed by studs passing through the slots.
