Abstract
1,256,810. Measuring shafts. R. GALDABINI. Jan. 7, 1970 [Jan. 18, 1969], No. 764/70. Heading G1M. A shaft 18 to be straightened is tested by rocker feelers 11, 12, 13 to determine where to apply the piston (40) of a press (41) see also Fig. 7 (not shown). The feelers are pivoted on a support 17 parallel to the shaft 18 and may be slid as an entire assembly on a base. The feelers contact three spaced points on the shaft and support a reference rod 22 which serves to provide a reference line or alignment between the rockers 11, 13. The arm 12<SP>1</SP> carries a clock-gauge 23 for the measurement of the positive or negative displacement between the rod 22 and the end of the arm 12<SP>1</SP> which represents the displacement of 12 with respect to the two contact points of the feelers 11 and 13. Of this displacement is zero the three points 11, 12, 13 are aligned and the shaft can be regarded as straight in this portion. Where displacement is at a maximum it is necessary to apply force to straighten the shaft. Indicators (44), (45), Fig. 7 (not shown) check the absolute displacement of the points of the feelers 11, 13, Fig. 6 (not shown) illustrates an arrangement for determining several points of differential error over the length of a shaft of stepped cross-section.
