Abstract

1,128,712. Indicating apparatus; dynamometers. COAL INDUSTRIES (PATENTS) Ltd. Oct.22, 1965 [Oct. 23, 1964], No.43346/64. Headings G1J and G1W. [Also in Division G2] A measuring, indicating and reading arrangement for use with a rotating member 1, comprises a measuring device 5, 6 attached to, and adapted visually to indicate a variable characteristic of the member 1 and means 8, 9, 10 for co-ordinating the rotation of the member 1 with the intermittent illumination of the device 6 by a stroboscope 11 to enable the device 6 to be read. The torque between two shafts 1, Fig. 1, may be sensed by load cells 5 communicating with a pressure gauge 6 which can be read when illuminated by stroboscope 11 flashing in synchronism with the passage of the gauge 6 as it is triggered by signals amplified in an amplifier 10 and produced by a photo-electric probe sensing the passage of a work 8 on the shaft 1. In another embodiment, Figs. 3, 4, 5 (not shown) the same arrangement is used to read a dial gauge (23) sensing the twist between spaced points of a shaft (s) at which clamps secure one end of a cantilever beam (22) and the gauge (23) respectively. Reading may be facilitated by using multicoloured scales for the gauges with one or more windows to indicate by coded colour combinations. The measuring device may be a thermometer carried by the rotating member.
