Abstract
1319531 Photo-electric scale reading DR JOHANNES HEIDENHAIN 18 June 1970 [19 June 1969] 29717/70 Heading G1A In a length or angle measuring system in which a change in the length or angle being measured causes a graduated scale, Fig. 1, to move relative to a scanning device 2, Fig.2, the scale has a pattern of graduations with a uniform grating constant; and with a progressively increasing and decreasing line gap ratio; and the scanning device has a scanning gap 3 with a width in the direction of relative movement substantially equal to the grating constant or an integral multiple of it. The arrangement may be photo-electric, capacitive or inductive and the pattern of graduation variation may be repeated. The sensed value is indicative of the measurement.
