Abstract
1302762 Length or angle measuring apparatus DR JOHANNES HEIDENHAIN 6 Feb 1970 5843/70 Heading G4H In length or angle measuring apparatus in which pulses are accumulated in a counter 32 (Fig. 1) for each increment of displacement of a scale a reference pulse, the position of which relative to the scale is fixed, is generated which, in accordance with the state of switches 37, 38, 39 results in either (a) the count being stopped, (b) the count being set to a predetermined count determined by the contents of a store 36 or (c) the counters continuing to count the pulses. As described the incremental pulses are obtained from gratings 10, 11 sensed by photo-cells 16, 17 to drive the counter forwards or backwards, the reference pulses being derived from further markings 18, 19 sensed by photo-cell 21. Alternatively capacitive magnetic or inductive sensing may be used. A reset button 40 is provided to stop the count and a lamp 35 is illuminated by the reference pulse.
