Abstract

563,336. Doors and windows. RUSCHI, J. B. A. E. DE, and RUSCHI, A. L. V. DE. April 21, 1943, No. 6394. [Class 20 (iii)] To prevent fingers being caught between the free edge of a closing door or window and the jamb, a rotatably sliding member is mounted in the jamb and recedes as the door or window is closed, but which, when the door or window is open, projects over the jamb and prevents fingers contacting the actual jamb. As shown, the member comprises a semi-cylindrical shield 36, having a tangential extension 37, rotatably mounted in a casing 28, 29 secured to the jamb and projecting therethrough. A cylindrical member 25 secured about the pivot of the door operates pinions 26 in opening and closing. These pinions engage teeth at one end of racks 39 which have oppositely directed teeth at their other ends to engage pinions 38 associated with the guard member, whereby movements of the door are communicated appropriately to the guard. The racks are housed in casings above and below the door. The drawings show the door fully closed, fully open and partly open respectively. Means other than racks and pinions may be used for connecting the hinge to the guard. Casings 14, 15, 18, 19 at the hinged side of the door co-operate with the cylinder 25 to prevent fingers being caught at that side of the door.
