Abstract
563,132. Mechanical couplings for cable arm ouring. M. & C. SWITCH GEAR, Ltd., anc MORRISON, R. Nov. 25 1942, No. 16751. [Class 38 (i) A gland for securing the end of a double wire armourec cable comprises a series of nested coned rings separately screw actuated to grip be tween them the armouring o: the cable and also secure packing rings surrounding the cable. The core 6 of the cable C passes into a socket B form ing part of the device to which the cable is to be secured. Packing rings 11 resting on a coned surface 16 in the socket are compressed by a divided coned ring 1 that is forced into the socket by screwing on to the latter a second coned ring 2 made in two halves. The inner armouring 7 is laid over the ring 2 and gripped by a third divided coned ring 3 pressed down by a loose ring 15 engaging a flange on the ring 3 and operated by nuts 14 on studs 13 secured in the ring 2. The outer armouring 9 is similarly secured between the ring 3 and an undivided ring 4 that is provided with an axial extension to carry a packing ring 12 for the outer insulation 10 of the cable. The fifth ring 5 compresses the packing 12 and is secured by lock-nuts 14a.
