Abstract
562,883. Steel manufacture. BRASSERT & CO., Ltd., H. A., and MILES, J. Sept. 21, 1943, No. 17300/42. [Class 72] In the manufacture of steel by the basic Bessemer process, iron having a phosphorus content of less than 1.4 per cent and a silicon content of less than 1.5 per cent is charged from a melting or blast furnace into a converter without being preheated and converted into steel with a single blow of a cold blast. Slag forming materials including lime in a proportion determined by the formulae 2CaO.SiO2, 3CaOP2O5 which substances are formed by the combination of the lime with the phosphorus and silicon in the metal are also charged into the converter and the' iron preferably contains 2.6-3.5 per cent of carbon. Specifications 19053/04, [Class 72], 474,224, 514,978, 525,591 and 546,020 are referred to.
