Abstract
8168. Messier, L. P. J. A. H. April 13. Basic Bessemer processes.-A proportion of basic slag from a previous operation is added to the charge in a basic lined converter in order to facilitate the treatment of a pig containing less phosphorus, or more silicon, than usual. The slag is stored in a mixer used in addition to the ordinary pig-iron mixer. After desiliconization, the slag is removed, the greater part of the phosphorus previously contained therein having passed into the metal ; lime is then added and the operation is conducted as usual. When the metal is not used directly from the blast furnace, the addition of basic slag may be made in the cupola.
