Abstract
18,962. Wolff, R. H. Aug. 17. Ore, cast-iron, and scrap processes.-In a process for desulphurizing and deoxidizing steel which has been previously dephosphorized in a Thomas converter or basic open-hearth furnace, the steel is charged into a ladle or similar vessel with a slag containing materials such as lime, fluor-spar, manganese ore, ferro-silicon, ferromanganese, calcium carbide, silicide of calcium, ferro-titanium, aluminium, &c., any of which may be employed in combination and preferably in a molten state. The steel is then finally allowed to rest in an electric furnace to complete the process of finishing and refining.
