Abstract
504,271. Steel. BAAKE, R. Aug. 20, 1937, No. 22871. [Class 72] In a process for the production of Thomas steel, the pig iron before being treated in the converter is treated in a basic-lined container or ladle with a molten phosphorus-extracting mixture of lime, manganese oxide, and iron oxide. The pig iron and the molten slag may then be poured into the converter and blown. In modifications, part of the slag may be poured off the iron in the converter, the iron and the remainder of the slag being transferred to a converter and blown ; or the pig iron may be first blown, then treated in the container as above, and afterwards reblown in a converter. Specification 1273/92, [Class 72], is referred to.
