Abstract
562,655. Valve amplifying circuits. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and CANNON, J. R. Jan. 6, 1943, No. 235. [Class 40 (v)] In a multi-stage push-pull amplifier using negative feed-back, the interstage coupling chokes and the output transformer are provided with gapped cores to avoid harmonic distortion and a common grid bias resistance is used in the cathode circuits of one stage to avoid spurious oscillation. The valves used are of the beam power tetrode type and are rendered satisfactorily interchangeable by the provision of an adjustment of the grid bias potential of one value of a pair in which separate resistances are used in the cathode leads. The Figures show a multichannel carrier telephone amplifier with feed-back from a tertiary winding on the output transformer to a centre tapped resistance YE in the input and grid stopper resistances YB, YC, YK, YL. Resistance YA is provided to avoid spurious oscillation at low settings of the gain control potentiometer PA while resistance YQ serves for matching and condenser QH improves the stability and flattens the response curve. A common bias resistance YF is used for the first stage and separate resistances with an adjustable portion YO on the output stage.
