Abstract

562,605. Seats for vehicles &c. CHAPMAN, A. W. Feb. 2, 1943, No. 1742. [Class 52 (ii)] Vertical adjusting of the back of a vehicle seat also raises or lowers the back end of the seat 16 proper, which can pivot about the front rod 18. The back is pivoted on screws 30 on a brace 13 joining slides 11, 12 movable on the main members 5a and locked in adjusted position by fitting in slots 32. A handle 35 of a catch-operating rod allows the adjustment. The front of the seat is adjustable up or down by fixing the hinge rod 18 in one or other of the holes 20, while the thigh support 19 is adjustable to and fro by locating the rod 18 in any of the holes 21. The seat and back can also be slid as a whole fore and aft. The main frames 5 and 6 are integral with the uprights 5a and may be of channel, tubular, &c. section. An alternative method of locking the back adjustment is described, Fig. 3 (not shown). The seat may be an endless band of canvas, the thigh rest being superimposed at the front.
