Abstract

560,877. Gas masks. NATHANSON, M. Oct. 23, 1942, No. 14921. [Class 81 (ii)] A gas mask comprises a hood 5 enclosing the head and having a neck - encircling portion 6, an air inlet opening 7 and an air outlet opening 8. A filter 12 is provided in the air supply tube 11 through which air under pressure is supplied by an electrically driven fan 17, the outer air being drawn through openings 19 in the fan casing. Leads 18a to the fan motor 18 enable the motor to be driven by a portable battery attached to the person, or by connection with an electric circuit in, e.g. a tank. The ingress of gas through the outlet opening 8 is prevented by the flow of filtered air issuing from the hood, such flow being directed substantially horizontally by strips 9, 10 on the hood extending horizontally in contact with the wearer.
