Abstract

1401898 Gas detector DRAGERWERK AG 9 July 1973 [8 July 1972] 32637/73 Heading G1B A portable gas-detecting apparatus comprises a housing which can be carried on the person, an electrically driven miniature fan mounted in said housing, a space in said housing for receiving a miniature electric power source for supplying electricity to drive said fan, and a detector tube connection with which said housing is provided and which communicates with said fan, said connection serving to communicate with a detector tube through which ambient air can be passed by operation of said fan. The apparatus may be secured to the front of a safety helmet, as illustrated in Fig.5, wherein there is provided a housing 1 containing a fan and power source, the housing being connected to a detector tube 7 by flexible tube 15. In the arrangement shown in Fig.5, the aspiration aperture 14 of the detector tube is positioned in the region of the wearer's mouth. The aspiration aperture may be positioned elsewhere, e.g. near the wearer's head Fig.4, (not shown). The efficiency of the apparatus may be checked by connecting the detector tube to a monometer Figs.2 and 3, (not shown) so that the negative pressure generated by the apparatus may be measured.
