[Class 97 (i)] In an objective comprising two divergent components located between two simple convergent components and each consisting of a divergent element of material having a relatively low AbbÚ V number compounded with a second element, convergent or divergent, of material having a relatively high AbbÚ V number, the materials of low AbbÚ V numbers have mean refractive indices between. 1.62 and 1.68, and AbbÚ V numbers between 21 and 31, and the materials of all the other elements have refractive indices between 1.70 and 1.80 and AbbÚ V numbers greater than 50 and, preferably, below 58. The materials may all have substantially the same relative partial dispersion, and the difference of refractive indices may be at least .05. The divergent elements may be of alkaline halide crystal and the other four elements may be of #-magnesium oxide crystal. Numerical conditions relating to curvatures are set out, and also complete data for two examples respectively comprising sodium bromide and potassium iodide. Specification 560,540 is referred to.
