[Class 97 (i)] In an objective comprising two simple divergent components spaced between two simple convergent components, the numerical sum of the radii of the front surface of the front component and the rear surface of the rear component lies between 90 per cent and 130 per cent of the equivalent focal length F of the objective, and the overall axial length between such surfaces lies between 40 per cent and 50 per cent of F. At least one of the convergent components is of material having mean refractive index between 1.7 and 1.8, the AbbÚ V number being greater than 50 and preferably below 58. All the materials used may have substantially the same relative partial dispersion and complete data are set out for two examples, wherein the convergent components are made of #-magnesium oxide crystal, both the divergent components being made of sodium bromide crystal or of extra dense flint glass.
