Abstract

560,563. Chucks. LOGAN ENGINEERING CO. Feb. 23, 1943, No. 2967. Convention,date, Feb. 23, 1942. [Class 83 (iii)] A bevel closing chuck has the end of the collet engaging an internal flange on the chuck body, a closing ring sliding on the body but prevented from relative rotation, and an actuating member screwed on the body and having a flange engaging a thrust flange on the closing ring to impart movement thereto. The collet has, preferably three, slits 48 dividing the frusto-conical end 40 into jaws. The cylindrical surface 44 for gripping the bar is relieved somewhat at 45, and the ends 55 of the jaws have clearance from the end 56 of the body 12 on which the closing ring 43 slides at 13, rotation being prevented by a pin and groove 66. A hand wheel 68 screwing on the body at 14 has a flange 62 engaging a flange 58 on the ring 43. The rear end of the collet fits a bore of the body at 37 and abuts an internal flange 33 thereof. The body has a spigoted and bolted connection 25, 27 with an adaptor plate 18 screwing on the spindle nose. In a modification the body engages the nose directly and is provided with holes for a tommy bar for screwing up and removal of the chuck from the spindle.
