Abstract

551,269. Dental engines. RAYNE, N. Feb. 13, 1942, No. 1988. [Class 81 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A spindle 11 with a chuck 14 at one end for gripping the shank of a dental burr and a crotch 13 at the other end for connecting to a flexible driving-shaft is mounted in a casing 12, which may consist of a single tube or of two straight portions meeting at an angle. The chuck 14 is made to grip the burr by being pushed forward into a correspondingly coned socket 15; to release the burr it is pulled out of the socket. The required longitudinal movement is imparted by a control sleeve 21 carrying a bayonet pin engaging with a groove 23 in a sleeve 24 screwed at 26 to the casing 12. The edge of the sleeve 24 can be locked in several different positions of adjustment by means of a grub screw. Part of the interior of the central sleeve is formed as an inwardly projecting shoulder 33 which, when turned suitably, pushes on a flange 31 and pulls the chuck 14 out of the socket 15.
