559,950. Optical objectives. TAYLOR, TAYLOR & HOBSON, Ltd., and WARMISHAM, A. Aug. 5, 1942, No. 10922. Addition to 548,384. [Class 97 (i)] The two holosymmetrically-arranged parts of a reflecting objective according to the parent Specification are so disposed that a principal focus of each lies at the stop position with respect to which the parts are corrected. As shown, the objective comprises spherical metallized reflecting surfaces R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>, Re, all of equal radius and symmetrically arranged with respect to a point A3. The focal plane of each part, and the focal surface R<SP>3</SP> of a correcting plate, pass through the point A3. The correcting plate may consist of dense barium crown glass or of a material according to Specification 548,729 and transparent over a spectral range extending well beyond the visible spectrum. Each pair of reflecting surfaces may be internally-reflecting surfaces of a piece of glass, fused silica &c ; some or all of the reflecting surfaces may be spheroidal. Complete data for one example are set out.
