Abstract

580,242. Spectacle lenses. CLAVE, S., and CLAVE, M. June 27, 1941, No. 8137. Convention date, April 4. [Class 97 (i)] A multi-focus lens comprises two or more lens elements at least one consisting of two or more pieces of glass of different refractive indices united edge to edge, the lens elements being united face to face to form a lens of which the constituent parts have a common optical axis. An element comprising glasses of refractive index n<1>, n2, Fig. 11, may be united to an element having refractive index n<1>, or two such. elements having refractive indices n<1>, n<2> and n<2>, n<3>, Fig. 13, may be united to an element having refractive index n<2>. The dividing line between the glasses may be straight or curved. The glass plates from which the elements are formed may be shaped before uniting face to face, or each may have one face shaped, the shaped faces united, and the outer surfaces subsequently ground as required. Fig. 16 (Cancelled) of the Specification open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, shows a lens having a lower prismatic portion of refractive index n<2>, the whole of the remainder of the lens having refractive index n<1>. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
