A trifocal lens comprises two elements 12, 14 joined to each other, each having an inset element 13 and 15 fused into the surface at which they are joined. The elements 13,15 have a different refractive index from that of elements 12, 14 and are preferably semicircular with their diameters parallel and their optical centres 17, 18 in line with the centre 16 of the lens.
