228,354. Bracey, R. J., and Bech, C. J. Feb. 15, 1924. Lenses.-An increase of illumination over the portion of an object, under examination with the aid of a magnifying-lens, is effected by combining a mirror and a lens. A positive lens consisting of two or more lenses cemented together has one surface of contact silvered except for an aperture near the centre, to form a reflector. The curves of the lenses are so arranged that the total refracting focal length is approximately equal to the total reflecting focal length. The silvered surface may be other than at rightangles to the line of sight. In a modification a single meniscus lens is used, the radii of curvature being such that the resulting mirror has approximately the same focal length as the lens.
