Abstract

559,690. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and TOWNER, S. H. Aug. 18, 1942, No. 11581. [Class 38 (v)] In a relay in which the L-shaped armature 11 is pivoted on a knife edge on a yoke 12 and is held in place by a diagonal pin 21 screwing into the yoke, a fixed stop 20 is positioned on the pin 21 at a distance of say 0.01 inch from the armature surface so as to allow the operative movement of the armature but to prevent it being displaced away from the knife edge by shock &c. The stop 20 may be a self-locking nut as shown in Fig. 2, or it may comprise a plain washer 24 (Fig. 3) backed by a compressible washer 25 which assumes the required thickness as the screw 23 is tightened in the yoke, a suitable gauge having been placed between the armature 11 and the washer 24 during assembly, and then withdrawn to allow the necessary freedom of movement.
