Abstract
765,438. Locking bolts; screw-fastenings. DZUS, W. May 17, 1955 [May 13, 1954], No. 7872/55. Classes 44 and 89 (1). In a self-locking device for securing members together, a screwed bolt 15 is movably held in a cup 17 by flanges 18, 19 which have apertures smaller than the bolt-head 16. A spring 20 normally holds the bolt within the cup, as at A, but when the bolt is applied to a member 11, to secure a member 12 thereto, the spring is compressed to exert a locking action on the bolt, as at B. The cup 17 may be secured to a member 12 by expanding its flange 19 as shown, and the tapped hole 24 in member 11 may be continued by a tapped recess 25, Fig. 4, which is laterally or angularly offset from the hole 24 to have a further locking effect on the bolt. Washers may be placed between the ends of the spring 20, the head 16 of the screw and the flange 19.
