Abstract
465,133. Light current relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and POWELL, F. G. S. Nov. 1, 1935, No. 30226. [Class 38 (v)] A guard for preventing damage to the contact springs of telephone-type relays is formed as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of a clip-on member of springy metal which comprises a flat portion 10 and downturned arms 11. As this is placed on the relay, Fig. 3, the arms 11 are sprung apart as by means of a special tool so that inwardly turned bifurcated lugs 15 engage the sides of the yoke 1 and the edge of the coil cheek 16, the portion 10 being pushed forward over the top of the porcelain member 6 and screws 7 and 8 so that a circular hole 14 snaps over the head of the screw 7 and the elongated hole 13 embraces the top of the screw 8 and the upward projection of the member 6. In this position the forward edges of the legs 11 project beyond the ends of the contact springs 5 so that the edge of the cover if pushed towards the springs will encounter the legs 11 of the guard and be prevented from damaging the springs. The hole 14 is slightly larger than the head of the screw 7, Fig. 4, so that if the edge of the cover engages the guard the latter will have a slight free movement to absorb the shock of the impact.
