Abstract

559,004. Pressure-relieving devices for fluids. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 7, 1942, No. 12610. Convention date, Sept. 8, 1941. [Class 135] [Also in Group XL] The target 25 is a thin layer of gold on a beryllium window placed at the end of a tube 13. Cooling means for the window and tube comprises concentric tubes 105, 107 joined by ducts at the window end and covered at that end by a further beryllium window 111. The cathode 45 is supported by a glass portion 31 sealed to a metal extension 17 of the plate 29, into which passes the other end of tube 13, A shield 67 projects round the cathode. The tube is surrounded by a casing 72 filled with oil, and an inflated rubber annulus 97 is provided to take up the expansion of this oil. A focusing magnet 121 is supported on the tube 13. The generated X-rays pass through window 111 which owing to the cooling systems used, may be directly applied to the treated part.
