Abstract

541,623. Electron-oscillators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 24, 1940, No. 9185. Convention date, July 29, 1939. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] In electron discharge apparatus of the type comprising two resonant chambers in the first of which velocity modulation of an electron beam takes and in the second energy is given up by the beam, one or both of the chambers 12, 15 are shaped as surfaces of revolution with constrictions at spaced intervals so as to provide periodic but non sinusoidal field concentrations along the axis of the beam. The space between the chambers may be enclosed in a metal cylinder 16 and a magnetic field for focusing the beam may be used. The beam after leaving the second chamber strikes a collecting anode 19 of cup shape. Co-axial conductors 13, 14 and 17, 18 or dielectric guides may be used for the input and output circuits, and a feedback 22, 23 of the same kind used when the device works as an oscillation generator.
