Abstract

558,886. Control of D.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and HASTINGS, H. C. April 22, 1942, No. 5409. [Class 38 (iii) ] A six-motor traction equipment has an ordinary bridge transition from full series to two parallel groups of three motors each and a shunt transition thereafter to three parallel groups of two motors each. The last accelerating notch of the two-parallel group is effected by closing contactors 3, 13. Thereafter the accelerating resistances are split, and the righthand part of each is shunted across motors III and IV by closing contactors 20 and 19 respectively. After further acceleration contactors 2 and 14 are opened, leaving motors I, II and V, VI as two groups in parallel, and the left-hand ends of motors III and IV are interconnected so as to form the third group. Acceleration is controlled by a notching relay, and typical values of motor currents and accelerating resistances are given in the Specification together with an acceleration curve. Motors can be cut out in pairs so as to exclude a faulty motor, the pairs being I, II ; III, IV ; and V, VI. The faulty pair, if other than III, IV is interchanged in the circuit arrangement with the pair III, IV, and acceleration is only allowed to proceed as far as the two groups in parallel.
