Abstract

759,707. Control of several D.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 15. 1954 [July 15, 1953], No. 19650/53. Class 38(3) Equal load sharing of mechanically coupled motors is ensured by connecting the separately-excited field windings of the motors in series and supplying them with current which is kept at a set value. The continuity of the field circuit is maintained when one or more of the motors are disconnected from the others by having contacts which close when the contacts connecting a field winding in circuit are opened. Adjustable trimming resistances are connected in shunt with each field winding to compensate for differences between the characteristics of the motors. The set value of the field current may be altered for speed control. Specification 759,706, [Group XXXV], is referred to.
