Abstract

396,410. Control of D. C. motors. WHYMAN, F., Arncott, Greenway Road, Timperley, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Feb. 2, 1932, No. 3154. [Class 38 (iii).] Regenerative braking.- At least one of a group of motors is used as an an exciter during regenerative braking, and the regenerating motor armatures A1, A2, A3 are connected between the supply conductors T, G in a series circuit which includes a stabilizing resistance SR the armature A4 of the exciter being connected across the stabilizing resistance in series with the fields F1, F2, F3 of the regenerating motors, and the exciter field F4 being connected across a part of the main series circuit which includes at least one regenerating armature A3. A variable resistance R may be provided in series with the field F4, and the speed and regenerated current of the motors may be regulated by varying the resistances R, SR. In a modification the armature A3 is connected between the ground G and the resistance SR, and the resistance R is connected to a point between the armatures A1, A2. In further modifications the field F4 in series with the resistance R, is connected either directly across the armature A3 or across the supply T, G.
